Case study: Lincoln BIG.

Since 2005, not-for-profit organisation Lincoln BIG have been putting Lincoln on the map as a retail and tourist destination and supporting the improvement of the experience of the city centre for businesses and people who live, work and visit the city.

One of the projects they have developed to support their aims is Lincoln Creates. The fund encourages artists and businesses to work together on visual art projects, making Lincoln city centre a more vibrant place to work or visit. Artists receive a grant to bring their projects to reality.

In the spring of 2023, I was commissioned by Lincoln BIG to photograph a number of the projects which are part of the Lincoln Creates. These commercial photographic shoots had several aims and objectives, including marketing the overall and individual projects and documenting how the grant funding was invested.

With photographing a variety of projects, I had to gain an understanding of each element to allow me to deliver images that both reflected the individuality of the installation and produced engaging, eye-catching images that fitted seamlessly into the marketing plan for Lincoln Creates - which included encouraging visitors to visit and participate in the activities.

Longer-term, there was a requirement to be able to use the images in marketing further projects and encourage artists to submit applications to receive grant funding for their installation ideas!

The projects photographed included: a Giant Jeans Installation (raising awareness of climate issues within the fashion industry); All We Need is Love Projections (digital projections on the side of a building around Valentine’s Day); and City Centre Stories, (an interactive digital art installation which transformed buildings visually after a QR code was scanned).

Lincoln BIG’s marketing and communications executive, Jenny Damp, said:

Chris recently worked with the Lincoln BIG team on multiple projects and events, including #DinoCity, City Centre Stories and our Valentines Projections. Whether it was people enjoying the event, street furniture or an action shot, Chris captured impressive imagery which accurately reflected the event and told a story.

From the first initial conversation through to post event work, Chris was thorough, passionate, easy to work with and understood the assignment, proactively sharing his thoughts and suggestions whilst staying on brand. We were extremely pleased with the end results and wouldn’t hesitate using Chris’ services again.

I would highly recommend Chris for any photography needs.
